Gym Leaders in Pokemon games are renowned for specializing in one type of pokemon. This works both to their advantage and disadvantage, as it makes it easier for trainers to prepare for them, but some multitype pokemon can catch trainers off guard.

So to this end, I propose a challenge: Clear a pokemon game using only one type of pokemon.

Rules:

  • You party cannot have multiples of pokemon.
  • You MUST catch at least two different pokemon of your chosen type.
  • If a pokemon of your chosen type appears in the wild, you must attempt to catch it.
  • Pokemon which have evolutions that are of your chosen type are allowed to be in your party, as long as they evolve into them. (For example, Magikarp (water) evolves into Gyarados (water/flying) and can thus be used on a flying-type team.)
  • You may use other pokemon up until the point where you catch two different pokemon of your chosen type, after which you cannot use any other pokemon. This is to make playthroughs of Generation 1 and 4 games actually possible (Brock+Roark)
  • You must nickname all of your pokemon.
  • You are allowed to have an HM Slave, but you cannot train them.
  • Have fun!
